stick to auto tuning questions!

I have a T56 and I'm starting to tune it right now. I'm thinking about going to a stalled 700r4 though. Will it be harder to tune it with the auto in it? Is there anyway to have control over the TCC thru the ECM even though my car was a stick car from the factory? Can I add in wiring to the ECM and program an auto .bin or what??? Any things I need to know first before doing this?? Is the TCC lockup the only thing the ECM controls on a 700r4???? Thanks alot!

With a 700r4 the ECM can only control TCC lockup. No I don't consider it any harder to tune an auto. You have to specify TCC lockup parameters but that doesn't really make it harder to tune.

If you switch to a 700r4 can I have your t56

Thanks, but no you can't have my T56 LOL I'm still trying to figure out how hard it would be to have the TCC lockup controlled like a factory auto car or should I just get an aftermarket lockup controller kit??? TIA

GTA91, I will assume that you have access to the prom burning equipment. For a switch to an auto, you just burn the AUJP (L98) which is an auto "bin", onto your existing Memcal. (Or buy an AUJP Memcal so you have a spare).

There are differences between the way standard and automatic bins handle the IAC. Guys who've converted to standards and just reprogrammed the AUJP auto bin find that it is too slow to "rev down", especially when pulling up to stop and idle.

Glenn, yes I can burn proms now!! As for using an auto bin, how will it actually now I have an auto? There aren't any connections to the tranny except for a TCC lockup and speedo. I'm probably going to use an aftermarket TCC lockup device or else a GM vacuum/electronic one from pro-built. How will it know to play with the IAC.... in other words how will it actually know when the car is in gear? Just wondering. What happens if I just run my manual bin in it with an auto?? The ECM won't be controlling anything on the auto except the speedometer. That brings up another question... on my firebird it is an electronic speedo but there are still speedo gears in the tranny correct?? I talked with Dana at pro-built today and there seemed to be some confusion about this?!?! Thanks!

The ECM knows only a limited amount of info regarding the transmission:

1) Whether it is in Park/Neutral.

2) Whether it is in 4th Gear or not

3) As for the TCC, the ECM controls the locking and unlocking - it has not feedback if it has actually occurred.

That is all the ECM knows about the transmission. There is a switch in the BIN to let it know whether you have an auto or manual. But it really doesn't do much.

The IAC settings for an automatic are within the BIN and unique to the auto BIN. Similarily the IAC settings for a manual are within the manual BIN and unique to the manual BIN. It is easiest to just start with the correct BIN (auto Bin for an auto and a manual bin for a manual) rather than trying to make them work for each other.

Get the AUJP BIN and start from there.
