help for newbie

First off let me apologize if I'm repeating someelse's question.. I was quite sure what to search for.. I just bought a laptop and downloaded craig motes software.. I successfully got connected.
How do you know where the readings should be...each line giving you a reading
should it be higher,,, lower... is it good etc. when my pocket programmer gets here how will I know if I should progam more fuel or less.. where should the iac counts be to be optimal etc.. any help or pointing in the right direction is much appreciated... I have learned alot from reading third generation boards the last few months but still have much to learn.

Your profile doesn't say what ECM and bin you're running, or whether you're using a MAF or SD.

Look through the stickies again about where to start. Try to get an understanding of how the BLM's (Block Learn Multiplier) work. You'll see in Trax's Promintro article his recommendation about progressing from constants to arrays etc.

Then keep asking questions

John

Yeah, seriously-

Read the stickies at the top of the group. Figure out what ECM you have, and the biggest thing at first is DATALOG as much as you can and get used to things.

There are a few programs out there that you can just dump your datalog file into and it'll (kinda) tell you what to do, BUT, I would SERIOUSLY do it without those programs and learn EXACTLY what you are playing with. Kinda like, if you know stick, then you can easily drive an auto...

Like John said, figure out what a BLM is and how it works, then start playing with the fuel tables a little at a time. You'll get a feel for it pretty quick if, to quote Grumpy, you "just do it."

Wasn't that a sneaker ad "back in the day"?
