4L80E ??

Newbie here, with a question about the 4L80E. Will it work OK behind the 305 TPI computer from an early 90's camaro or firebird? I'm wanting to install this combination in a 84 cj-8 jeep

You'll need an aftermarket computer to control the shifting.

Plus you need to do some sheetmetal work. It's bigger than a TH400 and very heavy. Since it's a completely electronic tranny you need a computer just to operate the tranny.

It's overkill for a 305. My truck has one in it from the factory and with the big block in front of it, the truck is the lighest vehicle they put this tranny into.

I will point out that if you plan on bolting up a transfer case to the 4L80E the back of the transmission case on the 4L80E is different from a T400 trans.

The 4L80E is overkill. It is VERY heavy and not as reliable as people seam to think it is. They love to break all kinds of parts and require a computer to operate it.
