laptop problem

laptop problem

guys please help!!!! I have the pocket programmer and chips and cables, so I ready to try to start programing my chip but I've tried for 3 days now the get my laptop to communicate with my pcm but no mater what ports ect. it won't work.. I hooked up to my home computer and craig motes program worked just fine...
the laptop has no serial port so I'm using an adapter to go to usb and it has windows xp... no one seemes to be selling laptops with serial ports any more...anyone elso overcome this problem? thanks dana

ahh the mystery usb to rs232 adapter. it seems depedning on the quality of the adpater that people do and dont have issues with it. sound slike you got a bum adapter. sorry. best thing to do is get a garage sale laptop for moates software.

I have a brand new all singing and dancing Compaq Evo at work and it certainly has a serial port. Are you sure you're not looking for a real old style plug (DB23?), rather than the newer DB9 (9 pin?).

Yeah, most of the laptop mfg's have dropped the serial port, they consider it a legacey device that is no longer of any use.
