Unable to link to Craig Moates' software (2-transistor circuit)
I built my 2-transistor cable today using the schematic from Craig's site. Unfortunately, I've been unable to link up with the software in a useful manner. I've gone into the options and specified my ECM ('165) and I've set the software mode to "Diagnostic ECM." When I go into one of the data menus, I get the usual message about putting a 10k resistor between pin A and B. I do that. When I press the "1" key, I see a bunch of numbers on the bottom of the screen with the message "No link, try again." The message "Receiving echo/response" is just above the numbers. I can press "1" forever but the thing doesn't link up. The numbers change, though, so that tells me that it's making some sort of connection with the software.
I have to admit that this is running off of a Windows 2000 machine (IBM ThinkPad 240X). I made sure to disable my infrared port. I also tried a few boot disks, but none of them seem to have any COM port drivers (Moates' software just sat there and did nothing when I tried from a boot disk).
Interestingly enough, WinALDL worked for a little while. I could receive sensor input data and malfunction flags, but nothing else. Whether that's because I didn't drive the car enough, I don't really know. I used it maybe two or three times until I shut it off and quit for a little while. The next time I came out, WinALDL refused gather data! What could be the problem here?
