Having trouble getting burned chip to do anything but limp mode...

I've made three consecutive burns, all verify good to the buffer. Using GM ECMEdit 2.06 and a .bin file I found on the DIY-EFI FTP pages. Made the changes I wanted for the stat (fan on/off) and for a little less fuel vs. load global change. Changed the start address to 04000... I don't know if I'm doing something else wrong or what. Can someone send me a good stock .bin for an '86 305 TPI AT car, or verify one if I send it to them?

These burns turn on the fan with the key and won't start... that's limp mode, right?

Actually it should start when in limp home mode. You didn't use a bin with VATS enabled did you?

Here, I made it easier to look at by putting the bin and ecu on the web that I'm using.

The bin looks ok, VATS is not enabled but the Fan under "flags" needs a check in the N/O box. This is probably why your fan is coming on immediatly.

As far as it not starting, make sure you have good spark and that the injectors are pulsing.

On another note, the speed limiter is enabled on that bin as well, set to turn off fuel at 115 MPH and doesn't turn back on till 67 MPH.

Thanks for the help Morley. I checked the box for N/O. Is there anywhere these abreviations are spelled out???

Also, where is the speed limiter set at those values? I thought it was the "stop fuel MPH" field, which in my GMECUEdit program, using that ECU file, shows a cut off of 255 MPH. Fuel restart is also set at a 255 value... Is something getting lost in translations, or am I not looking in the right place?

My bad, that was Rev limit..Stop fuel 115.98 and Rev limit.. Start fuel 62.9

Speed limit was : Stop fuel 33 mph Restart fuel 73 MPH...kinda weird. May have something to do with the ECU file I am using, I don't have the $32 just $32b thought the 32b could do regular 32's though.

Pull the ECU I'm using from the above link... Rev limit start fuel is 9549 or something like that...

didn't see anything to keep the car from starting there.

You could try a $32b bin file and see if that makes any difference or even a $6E (just pull the crnk fuse from the fues box to disable the CSI), the $6E will seem harder to start at first because the crank fuel isn't present for the first 10 or so distributor reference pulses but usually starts after 10 seconds crank time.

Are there supposed to be jumper pins on the Moates adapter for a AT29C256 chip? Otherwise I'm not doing something right in the set up or burning process... This is turning out to be a heck of a lot harder than the other tuning software I've used on OBD-II!!!

That depends on which adaptor you got from him.

I looked at the bin you had in the link, the N/O flag isn't checked in that bin, unless you did it after putting the bin up.

What does N/O stand for anyway? I'm not checking anything that I don't know what it is...

Check that or else your fan runs all the time when cold and when the engine reaches the "fan on" temp the ECM will turn it off.

Have you tryed to do a dos copy and make the bin 32K.

copy /b test1.bin+test2.bin test.bin

Just change the test1 and test2 to what ever you name the bin.
I had trouble with a friends car (88) with the start address, so I just copied the bin then went into DOS and made it 32K and that worked.

I just open the bin you have in TunerCat, it shows that the fuel cut off (speed) is set at 33 mph and it turns it back on at 73 mph. Then the Fuel cut off (engine speed) 116 Rpm’s and Resume at 63 Rpm’s.

I would not trust that bin, I can not see how it will run like that.

My '86 T.A. is backwards from what you say. If I check the N/O box, the fans come on ans stay on. Unchecking the box makes it run normal.

The bin is fine running on the correct ECU mask for my '86. The fuel cut off speed is set at 255 MPH, turns back on at 255 MPH. The RPM limit is set at 9,000+ RPMs... I never had a bin problem... it was a hardware mistake that kept it from running. Somehow I missed the step where the stock memcal goes onto the extra pins of the Moates adapter.
