V.A.T.S. help needed.

Ok so I built a new engine and converted to speed density from MAF at the same time. I am now not able to get my car going. I made a chip w/ the vats disabled but it doesn't seem to work.... I then put the old chip back in and externally fueled the car. if I spray carb cleaner into the throttle bodie it will run, once I stop it isn't getting any fuel. does the VATS disable the pulse width also? I thought it was just the fuel pump itself. now I wondering if its the injectors too since i can't even externally fuel it. any help would be GREATLY apreciated. thank you so so much

VATS does not let the car crank, so if the car is cranking VATS may not be your problem.

In the ECM a VATS failure will prevent the injectors from firing (BPW is set to 0).

Clear the ECM (battery disconnect) then check the codes again (after a crank attempt), if the VATS code comes up, then it isn't disabled within the ECM cal.

RBob.

What year are you dealing with? In my 91 the car won't even crank over if the VATS "chip" (aka resistor) isn't correct. There is a starter enable relay behind the drivers kickpanel that completes the circuit if given the okay by the VATS module. When I installed a starter button I just cut the wire coming out from the relay and grounded it while giving the other end of the coil a splice into the ignition on. I'm guessing that in 87 since there was no VATS that you don't have this starter relay. This would explain why it's cranking but not starting.
You need to get a VATS module and play around with the resistors so the ecm is happy or just have the chip reprogrammed to disable VATS.

There is another way to find out if it is the vats system. Mid America Designs offers a VATS bypass for are system. www.madvet.com part # 601-114. $59.99 You first have to find out what you resistor is on your key (take the key to the GM Parts Dealer) and tell mid america what it is, and bingo, you have a nifty bypass switch. I have one and it's awsome. Flip the switch 1 way VATS is enabled, Flip it the other way VATS diabled, put the switch in the middle, nothing can start your car.
