Vortec TPI
Vortec TPI
I'm building a 355 ci vortec TPI engine like the one in the SDPC catalog, HOT cam, vortec heads. I've been burning proms for my stock Speed Density 305 motor for practice and it's running great. Is the stock 350 $8D bin close enough to get this new motor running and drivable? I have some new headers from Jet Hot. Should I put the stock manifolds on and do some tuning before I put on the headers? You know how it is firing up a new motor, just getting it to run and the timing set, looking for leaks and the many things that could go wrong. One mistake and all that money and hard work invested in the project down the drain. Just want to know what to expect on the stock bin until it is warmed up and in closed loop. Thank you for any advice you can give me.

Is the one your using an 8D?
If so correct the injector constant per any ij size change, and then add a few points of fuel across the board, and remove a few degrees timing other then at idle.
You first want to maintain the ability to idle and run at 2K to break in the cam, then just tune as you were.
You might look at moving the first few table entries down a few rows since the new cam probably will have a little less vac at idle.
