How Do I Burn My Own Chip??

i have an 88 trans am gta with 350 tpi. i was upgrading to a 406 and i want to be able to burn my own chip. what software is used? how much does the hardware cost to get it setup? can i reuse my stock chip? please let me know because it it something that i want to start on soon.

For the basic information on what equipment you need, etc., read HERE

It's not hard or terribly expensive to be able to burn your own PROMs.

Learning to tune so that your PROM's do what you want is the hard part. Read everything you can on these boards and on diy-efi.org. You can download GMECMedit from http://gmecmedit.markmansur.com/ as a free alternative to Tunercat. If you're just working on your 88 GTA, then it will probably do everything you need to do.
