Where should Resistor go? (pic)

Im having the dardest time hooking my car up to my laptop. Someone said that the resistor may have not been included in Steve Ruses's cable.

Where would I look? Or can someone tell if it is correct in the pic? (i doubt as the pic is terrible)

Any help would be :hail: . Because its baiscally come down to , either get this thing hooked up or sell the car....

I'm having the same problem with my cable. Although mine is a lot different looking, it's from customefi.com. I don't know wether it has the 10k ohm resistor in it either but it's not reading from the computer. All i get is three lines of raw data in winaldl wen i hook it up.

Could i just place it right after the wires come out of the aldl connector?

The 10k resistor isn't in the adapter picture you posted. It is inside the connector that plugs into the adapter going to the aldl.

The cable i have has two prongs that i plug into the aldl port. I got it to work earlier today, i used a 10k ohm resistor and put it between A and B and then pluged the prongs in. Worked well. I just want to figure out a better way to put that resistor there. It'd be cool to hard wire one in with a switch so i can put it on when i want, so i just have to plug the aldl thing in.

What's the benefit of a big fancy cable like that, when I've got the piece of cake to make 2 transistor simple cable working for me?
