Can't get WinALDL to work right.
Can't get WinALDL to work right.
I built 2 cables today using the diagrams here : http://winaldl.webhop.net/
I'm using it on my '870 ecm (1985 vette).
I built one using the serial port power, and two using an external power wire (from my cigarette lighter).
I am using a newer Laptop with a 9pin serial port on it which is tested good.
(I tried another laptop even and no difference)
Using the diagram with the power supplied from the cigarette lighter, when I connect it to the aldl and run the 10k resistor between A-B, I get streaming data in the top 2 fields only. (MW2 and PROMIDA)
No other data comes through at all, no Dash data, etc..
The other cable where it pulls the power from the laptop's serial port itself doesn't even pull any data.
Anyone have a clue?

Check that the baud rate for the serial port is the same in your control panel as in your Winaldl configuration file.
On my Win 2000, I go to Control Panel, System, Device Drivers, Ports, Com1.
I run mine at 2400, 8 bits, no parity, 1 stop bit and hardware flow control.
