Ok tuning guys, why is SLP chip making my car slower?
I posted this question a while back in the TPI forum with no anwswer. I figure you all actually tune and would have a good idea why this chip holds my car back.
I ran a 13.56@100 last year with the all the mods in my sig except the headers, chip, and tune up items.
Now, over the winter I installed SLP 1 3/4" headers, SLP stage II chip and new plugs/wires/cap/rotor. I changed the initial timing to 7 degrees.
The car will not go past a 13.70@98. Many people have told me it is the chip.
What settings are in this chip that would make my car slow down 2-3 tenths from before I did the headers? What recommendations would you all make for these mods as far as tuning? I do have dyno graphs if needed.
This has been boggling my mind for months now.
Thanks for any help!

Just because you put in an aftermarket chip doesnt exactly mean your car will run faster. Considering that chip was modded, if it even was, to be put in thousands of cars. Statistics will show that alot of cars might respond well to the SLP chip, some may not respond at all, and others will suffer in peerformance. Its just business dude, they are in the business of extracting money from your pocket, and you are in the business of accepting their advertising for face value, results often lag behind in importance after they have been paid. As everyone else and his mother will tell you DIY. You have to give a motor what it wants, not force something at it that might be wrong. If the stock chip is working then leave it for now.

I bought the chip used for $25, so I am not out much at all. I am fully aware a one-size-fits-all tuning program will only help a small percentage of cars. The only advantge that chip gave me is turning the fans on sooner. (whoooopeee)
I am just curious as to what SLP does to the chip so when I do start DIY tuning, I do not go the direction they burned into thier chips.
Thanks!

SLP just makes a mass amount of chips that really all they do is advance timing and fuel at WOT. You have to remember this chip is not designed for any type of real modification and that anything out of stock configuration would make the chip useless.. These guys here are doing some crazy stuff now a days... I cant keep up with it all... its really cool.

Ahhhhh... I guess the problem may be the 24# injectors and WOT fuel curve in the SLP chip. It did seem like it was always a little boggy at WOT.
