Can i make my 400 run with this cam?

its a comp cams 286HR

DURATION
ADVERTISED 286
@ .050” 230

Valve lift
W/1.5 ROCKER .560

LSA 110°

its a single pattern cam so the intake and exaust are the same.

the engine is a 400 SBC with 230cc pro topline lightning heads, hooker longtubes

the intake will be a custom sheetmetal intake by me, but if i fail to do it, a modded LT1 intake will go on there.

my question is, can i still get the TPI computer to work with this combo? i know its kinda radical for the street, but thats how i like it.. i will be learning to burn my own proms as i go, and im a quick learner, but i havent burnt a chip yet.

the car is currently a 91 TBI and i will be converting it to 91 speed density TPI

is this even possable with the TPI computer? would the low vac at idle confuse the heck out of the MAP? are there "tricks" i will have to use to get it to work?

In a word, yes.
It will take some time, especially if your starting out new to chip tuning with that combo.
Lots of reading will definetly help the learning curve.

I've just heard of 3 sets of those heads being porus.
Second hand non-confirmed rumor at this point, just a heads up.

Actually that is the excact cam I just took out of my car..
Ran great but I had to run car open loop or else headers would glow at idle..... No matter what you did with timing. It has 66 degrees overlap and runs killer, but way to much overlap for o2 sensor at idle. All unburnt air had o2 always thinking it was lean and dumping fuel only to burn in the header.

You may want to try running that cam 4 degrees advanced, that may help situation.
I would recomend looking for something 112 lsa with less overlap, maybe have comp do a custom.

Thats same roller I now run except i'm not using 1.6's, and its much easier to tune!
Because the overlap is much less than the 230/230 cam.
