hypertech chip question

I hope this is the right section, anyway.
I recently was given a hypertech chip for my 85 305 tpi. I noticed a slight power gain, but I do not know exactly what this particular chip does to my particular car. I know that most the chips for newer cars adjust timing, spark, fuel, and shift points( I thought the shifting feels different, but maybe it is psycological). I guess I was just wondering if my chip does all that, or if it just messes with the gas.
Thanks

DO a search on here about the agtermarket chips. I think you'll find one thing: They make the car FEEL more powerful byu adding timing and the equivilent fuel to cover it up, and that makes it "feel" faster.

In a thirdgen, there is no way to control the shifting by the computer (unless a newer transmission and computer system has been installed)

Mine realy does not seem to give my car any more horsepower or use any more gas. I assume it has to do something for being a $130.00 chip. But I dont care too much because it was given to me anyway. So I will probably keep it in anyway.

I gained 2/10s in the 1/4 mile over stock...back to back testing....I gained another 2/10s by doing my own chip
