Aldl cable question

I recently purchased an aldl cable from somone online. The cable works excelent on my laptop, but only on a 1990 rs with a tbi and an 88 chevy pickup also with tbi, when i plug the cable into my new motor(TPI) in my 1990 as well as 2 other tpi vehicles, it spits out garbage data and the only data that shows up is the raw data, what do i have to do to fix this? The software im using is Win ALDL, and my laptop has windows 98 on it, and i believe it is a 1 transistor cable. thanks for any help

I think your TPI has either a '165 or a '730 ECM. You could try the tech articles on this board to confirm which it is.

AFAIK, both these ECM's have an ALDL speed of 8192 baud. Winaldl is for 160 baud ECM's- like your TBI's.

Winaldl will work with the 165 ecm if you put a resistor between ground and terminal b on your aldl. The 730 will not work with winaldl . I would get moats software , it works with both and it gets 8192 baud out of both ecm's. Winaldl will only get 160 out of the 165, however winaldl is an excelent program.
Also the resistor for winaldl and the 165 has to be a specific ohm
maybe a 9k ohm I'm not sure.

my prom is a 1227165 prom, so all i need to so is use the resistor to use win aldl. Has anyone sugested to jonas maybe making an 8192 software, i think its a 10k ohm resistor that is used, but im not sure does anyone know what it is for sure? Also what is the rating on the reistor 1/4 or 1/2 and does that matter

ahhhhhhh.... ive been using Winaldl with no problem... maybe i burnt out a resistor in my aldl cable? Maybe thats why im not getting any type of response? I went to try it on a friends TBI car, and I got zero data other then some sparatic crap thrown on the screan after i had unpluged the wire.
