02 sensor function ?

Question.
i understand the 02 provides attemps to provide stoich in closed loop. when in open loop does it send signal and ecu disregards or it is somehow disabled? i will assume it still reads but ecu disregards. it appears my a/f meter shows readings in open loop with cool coolant sometime and sometimes not. i dont understand. i did not look at a/F meter in open loop PE but will. will the o2 sensor in open loop PE give me an A/F reading? I was going to tune the 4000-4400 rpm/map BLM by disabling PE at higher map/tps and check the gauge to see if i am triggering PE. In other words not disable totally but move the threshold up for trigger to PE. this allows me access to those higher values which i have not yet fully tuned. i am concerned i may be too lean 3600-4400. dyno run showed 15/1 at beginning dropping to 11.9/1 in 12 second pull. . after run i enrichened somewhat in TC to shoot for 11.5/1 in PE 4000-5500 rpms. also on deaccelration it appears the 02 no longer feeds my A/F meter? i understand deacceration enleanment but i thought i had it disabled. speed density tuner cat winaldl 7747.

An O2 sensor just indicates richer or leaner then Stoich..
Period, end of conversation.
They're effected by EGT, and backpressure.

If warm, they constantly output a voltage.

There are several parameters for going closed loop. Coolant temp. TPS, time since start, passing the Knock test in some codes, etc etc.

WOT is a special condition, and is not closed loop, in the 3rd Gens

1) What you get is a continued voltage output, as Grumpy indicates, so you can read the O2 Volts on Winaldl. To convert that to an A/F reading, you need to have a graph of O2S voltage vs AFR for your sensor. The problem is that the stock NB sensor "just indicates richer or leaner then Stoich.. " because it will only give a small voltage delta for AFR delta outside the stoich point.

2) Maybe the guage doesn't get enough voltage to read when there's fuel cutoff. Does your AFR guage just piggyback on the stock O2S?

i was able to look at it this am. in pe it goes rich which is consistent with my expectations. i can see when it goes PE. jumps into the green when i get on throttle. in deaccelleration enleanment(coast down hill on xway) it does not register. now i thought i had that diisabled. i guess i did not fully disable just adjusted the parameters. actually some one did it for me as TC did not have in program. tuning is fun. now that i am not in dark. anyone hesitant dont be. jump in and be patient. document document document changes..
