ecm question

Ok i have a dumb question, that ive searched and seen nothing about. Its well known that the tbi uses the 160 baud rate and the tpi uses 8192? i think, well i have a tbi motor going in but i want to do the datalogging with the 8192 baud rate tpi ecm can i burn my own chip for the tpi ecm to run a tbi motor?

Yes.
But, you need to use an ecm that will handle the TBI injectors. So your limited to the 1227749. Then wire it up like it's used in the Sunbird application.

You'll need to add an actual MAT sensor to get it correct.

I've done it, but it was years ago. There is a difference in the injector firing strategy, but from limited playing I got to do with it, it didn't seem to matter. But, I was using a regular single plane manifold.

I'm surprised, the TBI crowd's never really played with this notion.

If you use the Syclone code.
Using the Sy code will allow you to actually use the MAT for more accurate fuel and timing.

You guessed right. The MAT data allows the ECM to put more fuel in for colder air and less for warmer, so you maintain your target AFR.

And it looks like you got so excited, you overlooked the fact that His Grumpiness has done it before. Now see if you can find something he hasn't.

Now that's a worth while ambition....

BTW, I have to say the Syclone code, from my point of view, is about the neatest thing there is.
Some of the stuff takes a bit of a nack to get, but the way the AE, and DFCO is, leaves little to be desired.

AE = Acceleration Enrichment, which is the transient way the ECM increases fuel to stop the flat spot you'd get when you put your foot down quickly (like an accelerator pump on a carb).

DFCO = Deceleration Fuel Cutoff, which is the mode the ECM operates in when you drop your foot right off the throttle and run on the overrun, including what to do about the spark timing and how to switch the fuel back on.

Another mode like a non-transient AE is PE (Power Enrichment). Not all ECM's support equivalent forms of these, and some binaries are better than others. That's Grumpy's point.

You'd do well to dig up some lists of abbreviations, and to find some docs like the Sunbird Turbo P4 .PDF that you can Google to in a few spots on the net.

You haven't really looked until you've at least combed through ftp://www.diy-efi.org

You'll find the Turbo_P4_doc.pdf and the $58t.zip on the uploads directory.
