wide band setups

how do i tell if a setup i am looking at is any good, besides price. i am looking at a few that are in the 300-600 $ range. i know that there cheap but what makes them junk the three that i am looking at are

ya that is one of the ones it the second link and i can get it 20 bucks cheaper by going through them
and i suck at soldering i have been trying to make a adl cable for win adl wor months now im on try #3

soldering isn't that hard.

make sure you ahve the proper stuff. 60/40 rosin core solder, around 0.025 diameter. a pencil iron (Not a gun!) around 25-33W. then "obtain" a piece of junk electronics (old boom box, clock radio, whatever). and practice. remove components, solder them back in, add jumper wires, just practice. Make sure your solder iron tip is clean (use wet sponge) and shiny whenever you start to solder. new tip has to be prepared for use first by adding lots of solder into it till it is nice and shiny. if everything is prepped and working as it should, a solder joint should take no more tahn about two seconds to complete.
it's much easier to learn from your mistakes when the item you are working on is already junk and won't frustrate you everytime you say "oops".
