What all do I need...?

I am very interested in starting to burn chips myself. I'm interested in a list of all the tools I'll need and any company that's better than another. Let me know what companies you all like. I'm going to be doing a huge swap on my car in a few months (June I hope) and will need major tuning so I want to get into it now so I'll be ready.

There is a good place to start, then read, read, read! Research is the key. Seek out posts from people like TRAXION, Grumpy, RBob, Glenn91L98GTA just to name a few. The actual process of burning the chips is stupid simple. The hard part for us PROM newbs is learning what to change, and I'm still learning!

Check out the stickies at the top of the board. All the info you want, plus some to confuse you for a while

With that said, I followed Traxion's reccomendation and got the pocket programmer 2, and I use ECM852 for data logging. As for the interface, I used the MAX232 schematic that's readily available on the net to make it. Cost about $30 for all the parts, and about 2 hours for me to piece together (including 3 runs to the local electronics place). For editing the proms I use winbin and tunerPRO, mostly tunerPRO tho. I have read that tunercat is supposed to be more versitile, but I haven't reached the limit of the free stuff yet

Also, if you find that the free stuff is really helpful, make a donation to the programmers to say thanks. (I still have to do that, but it's on my list of things to take care of)

Good luck
