First Time burning, no workie....

I'm trying to burn a chip for the first time. I purchased tunercat and the $31 file, I have a needham EMP-20 burner and this is for a 95 7.4. This has the blue memcal setup. I just desoldered the chip and when this is working I'll solder it back since there will be no need to burn it again. The chip is a 27C512 I believe, this was the only size that let me read the chip and edit it with tunercat.

I read the chip just fine and it created a 64K .bin file that tunercat loaded just fine too. I then burned the chip with no problems, everything went just fine but the car runs terrible and the check engine light is on. I then burned the original code back and the same thing.

I've read some articles about burning the code with an offset or at a certain address.

Any ideas on what I've done wrong?

Thanks,

Lee

Try programming the chip.
Then reading the chip.
Then compare the two.

Bad soldering joint, or eprom is about all it can be. If the stock .bin doesn't work.

Make sure there's nothing running in the background when programming, as I recall Needhams were bad about that.

Thanks Grumpy,

I've done that, burn and rechecked several times!

So I dont have to worry about any offsets?

I'll boot to DOS and give that a try...
