870 to 165 swap (lil confused)
OK I have a couple of questions.
1. Should I make the changes listed here http://forums.corvetteforum.com/zerothread?id=487954 ?
2. In that thread is he using the same relay for MAF power and MAF burnoff?
3. Could someone explain the injector splicing a little better?
4. Whats the possiblity that I will fry my ECM
I may have more questions later.
Thank you.

Ok I have recently done this swap and here is a thread that helps on the wiring a little, .https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...0&pagenumber=3
If ya need more info post in that thread, I help as much as possiable
Not as hard as you think once you get into it
oh yeah that site you had listed was a corvette site and they require the wiring to be a little different

Oh ok I think i get it if the color coded wires in that picture are correct, then I just splice the light blue ones together and the light green ones together and put in the appropriate PIN. I am much better with colors so is that how the 1985 harness is colored?
And what about relays, is it the same relay for both just wired different?

Yes the 1985 Harness has the same color wires.
Now on the Relays one of them is 5 pin and the other is 4 Pin. I am almost sure you can use the 5pin relay on both just don't use the 5th wire on it.

Keep me updated.
Just make sure as you remove a wire to Label it with the Pin address where it was and Where it is going. I found this to be pretty helpful so that if you go in the house and get a drink your not Lost.

I will probably make another thread after I do the swap or during the swap if I encounter any problems. So just keep an eye out for it.

UPDATE:
Well I got all the stuff. But the ECM says it is a remanufatured module on it
And the car it came off I used to on but since it had a bad title we sold it for a parts car. But when we owned on day it started running funny when we taking it to park in the back yard so we just cut it off and did not worry about it. But the next day the car would not start at all, not even with shooting starter fluid in it. So right now I am conserned if the problem was ECM related.
What do you guys think?
What are the chances this is a bad ECM?
What are the chances that I will screw up my car doing this? (Yes I am nervous) LOL

ok I was Also Nervous before I did it, being that the ECM was used and came form Ebay. But I have a 91 S-10 as a daily driver and it uses the 165' also so I just put the Memcal out of the s-10 into my Ebay 165 and plugged in the computer and It worked. I proballt wouldn't have done the swap If I wasn't sure the ecm worked.
All the wiring beginning to end is complete on mine took about 2 hours. I am waiting on my Memcal that I baught to be shipped. Then I have to buy a Moates Flash N Burn, HDR1,GP1 so that I can read the Bin form my memcal and then use tuner Pro to turn off the VATS so I know that my swap is ok. I am still very comfortable that it is ok since I know the ECM is fine and I took time to label Everything and double check it before doing it.
Just make sure that the ecm works first. Repinning isn't that hard once your into it. I went to a junkyard and cut a few ECM connectors off of a wiring harness and Tried it first it took 2 times untill I could properly do it.
just my .02

Just think, If you would have cut the ECM connectors as well (leaving the same amount of extra wire, and gave the junk yard guy a couple of bucks for a trashed ECM. You could have taken the female conncetor end out of the junk ECM and built an adapter harness. That way if it doesn't work, you just unplug it and plug the 870 back in. If I had a way to post a picture, I would show you my adapter....
Someone else built it, but I'm in the process of double checking it (now that I have wiring diagrams) although I think the problem I had with it was the NC high pressure switch on my AC and the 89 No Vats chip was most likely NO. I will take care of that issue with the PROMinator and TunerPro. I sent a custom chip to Mr. Bill last Thursday so he could read and copy the bin file to the PROMinator for a base line.

Yeha I thought about making a adapter but the junk yard wanted like $25 for a ECM and had no return police if it was bad. But I never want to go back to a 870'so I went to the perminate soultion, plus changing the pins is eaiser than making the adapter.
Now I have taken Fan control away form the ECM so I don't have to worrie about that issue, although I am getting ready to buy a flash N Burn with a GP1 and a HDR1 form Moates So I can disable vats. Later on I am going with the AutoProm.

The only reason I went with the adapter at the time was that I knew the car would pass smog with the 870..... I will probably do the pin swap/splicing in the future. I have the tool for doing it, just don't have much time......
I'm considering converting the adapter in the future to use for a 730 computer. I'm just not sure what the cost/benefit ratio is with the mild engine I have.......
