Help getting started on Tunning..??
I have got the things to start my tunning but, I am in need of assistance. I have read and read and read untill I cannot read anymore. These Threads are full of information but, thay are hard to follow. So as my learning attention grows the topic I started on is now on something else.
A little of what I got......
89 IROC 5.7 TPI, bore +.030, 11.1 pistons, .480 cam, descreened MAF, Headers and exaust, Gutted Converter, and full on wiper fluid. Those are just some major ones.
-Prominator installed and ready for input.
-Using TunerPRO v3.09
-Stock bin (APYN3496)
PROBLEMS:
-Car had jumpy idle 60% of the time (its had it for 6 years thou)
-When WOT spark knocks SES light comes on and Black smoke poors from behind.
-During regular driving conditions car runs smooth.
I have played with the MAF tables and Spark Tables. This does not work for me. Could someone point me in the right direction or offer some helpfull advise..?? When data logging what am I looking for that causes the spark knock..?? I just found out the 165 brain was bad causing really wierd data when logging. So all my old data I believe is worthless.

The first thing is to use the original clean BIN file, in your case APYN3496.
Make one run and do a “data logging” you should export this data logging as a CSV file.
This file you can read with windows excel and you can see if your BLM (LTerm-C) are at 128 or not. Everything +/- 4 above or below is OK.
See the BLM that are above or below and check for the Fuel trim Cell number that will give you and indication where the problem is.
Read the problem areas the corresponding “Load Var.” and “RPM” and change the MAF table to add or subtract fuel.
One point of attention is:
When you are doing a data logging and you use a 10K resistor you can get problems with the spark advance.
GM has put a S.A. adder of 8.09 deg when you run with the 10K resistor.
So you will get knock that is not related to you S.A. table setup.
How to solve:
You can do it via hardware putting a switch at the 10K resistor, once you are connected to the ECM and you get data you can switch off the resistor and you will still receive data.
The other way is to change something in the BIN and that is the address $23, put the value to zero.
I did change the $6E ECU file to make the change easy and you can download the file from my web page.
Check the constant “S.A. Adder for ALDL (10K mode)”.

I hope that will help you.
