limp home mode after data logging???

I'm running the 165 ecm and ARAP 6E bin. After trying unsucessfully for hours to get tunerpro to log data using the 2 transistor cable I went to try and start the car and it started in limp home mode...Not sure why, but it's stuck in that mode. I verified the chip using the PP2 and reprogrammed. Same thing. I tried a different set of limp home chips. Same result. I jumpered A and B with a paper clip and it flashed once, paused, flashed twice quickly then stopped and repeated the sequence. Anyone have any ideas. could that cable have cooked the computer?? ECM and ignition fuses check out good.

I hooked up winaldl to see if any codes were thrown, none. Have no clue as to what's going on now....

Using the 2 transistor cable do you still need the 10k resistor between A and B????

Thanks,
Chris

The 1-2 blink with A&B shorted is correct, no problem there (DTC 12 is no DRP's).

Limp mode will cause the fan to run continuously, is it?

Fan comes on when car is running cold...yes. Fan doesn't come on until car is started. You have push gas a little to fire it and it smells really rich. Plus the car lurches forward a little when started.

TCC lock solenoid is $30..Just wondering why it shows 3rd gear lock when the key is on and not 1st for example.....

Did you flip the NO/NC fan control bit? ARAP being a Y-body bin has it reversed.

The 3rd gear switch is a pressure switch within the transmission. I don't think that the F-body cars used them. Just a 4th gear switch.

I have the fan NO selected and it worked fine the last week when I was driving it.

The parts catalog shows a TCC lockup solenoid mounted to the valve body in the trans. What is this pressure switch???

The car is definitely is starting with the TC locked. I even put it in gear with my foot on the gas because it dies if I take it off. It shows true next to the 3rd gear spot in the transmission section on tunerpro bit data...

It also shows TCC locked in winaldl with the key on..

The pressure switch is different from the TCC soleniod. The pressure switch is mounted on the valve body an is tripped when the trans shifts into 4th gear. This allows the ECM to know whnever the trans is in overdrive.

The '89 and '92 wiring diagrams don't show a 3rd gear switch, I would ignore it.

As for the fan & TCC it seems as though either the bin is corrupt or the ECM went bad. Do you still have the 10K resistor across A&B? That will change the internal operation of the ECM. Only use it to connect then remove it.

I will try my old chip and see what happens. If it does the same thing, then we'll know the ecm went bad. If it doesn't do the same thing, then I'll burn the stock bin back to the chip and start over.

I'm also going to try and disconnect the plug on the side of the trans and see what happens. It should run without that plugged in...

junkyard ecm $50 here...already priced them.

well, reburned the stock original ARAP bin and no luck. TCC lock request when key on. unplugged cable on the side of trans same thing. Limp mode startup.

I guess that leaves only the ecm and possibly the ignition switch from what I have read...
