The Best way is to Learn to do it your self.

Programmer: Flash N' Burn $85.00
Chip Adapter: GP1 $55.00
Programming Software: TunerPro Free
Aldl Scanning Software: ^^^^^^^^^

Learn to do it your self and save money. The only thing I didn't list is a Laptop, all you would need is a 233mhz cheap laptop and build a Cable to link to the car. Then Go for a drive and post results. LEARN LEARN LEARN

You cannot successfully program a better chip for your car unless you know what you want to change and why. That is a given. A great way for determining what you want to change is through the use of a Scan Tool. A Scan Tool is a tool that communicates with your car's ECM through the ALDL port and displays your car's current runtime statistics (such as O2 voltage, Coolant Temperature, Knock Retard, Air Temperature, Spark Advance, etc). Although it is not necessary to have a Scan Tool to successfully change your car's EPROM calibration, they can be extremely helpful because they let you see exactly what your ECM sees. Do you need more or less fuel? Do you need more or less spark? Do you experience any knock retard and if so, at what RPM’S is the knock experienced? All of this information can be determined easily by looking at certain parameters that are displayed via the Scan Tool. This is why mail order chips are Not Right because they have no idea what your car needs or is doing.

i see a few people have read this thread, but not a lot of responses. my main concern was will i benifit from a 350 chip over the 305 chip i have in it. and if i burned my own chip and compared to my 305 chip how far off would the parameters be.? but like i said my main concern is the benifit of a 350 chip and what year 350 tpi could i get one for, please help ...... :hail:

Go down to the local GM dealer and fork over $75 for a chip for an 87 350 TPI. If you are running the 305 injectors, you will need to install an adjustable fuel pressure regulator. If you are running 350 injectors, it should run fine if the motor is stock. If not stock, with in reason it will run fine, albeit, it will never make close to the power the engine is capable of without a custom chip..... Either way, it's way better than a 305 chip.......

PS: Get some real heads.... Leave the 305 heads for small engines, not big ones. Those heads are hurting you almost as much as your chip....

First off if you didn't put in a 350 knock sensor, you really need to, to protect the engine. If you put in a "healthy" 350 and are running the 305's 19# injectors you probably wouldn't have any problems at idle through part throttle, but at WOT you could be running dangerously lean.

Almost forgot, Your ESC module and EST modules are different than the 305 modules as well (despite what the dealer may tell you). You can run them, but you will get a check engine light from time to time from the ESC module. The EST module will change the dwell setting (and I think coil saturation) like adjusting points in an older car.

Once you modify the engine from non-stock configuration (better than stock 350 heads, high flow induction, cam, etc.) then you will most assuredly want to start burning your own chips. Good luck on your combo!!!!!

HEY CAPTAIN C.. first of all i appreciate all the info you share. its good knowing that people out there are willing to educate the dummies like me.. THANKS..:hail: I've had my combo running for 5 years now and haven't had any codes yet.. like i said in the beginning i'm not having issues with the car just learning more and asking more question s now since i've found this great website. i'm learning more day by day, and maybe someday i will take the step and burn still kinda scares me because i don't know squat on what to do or how to change. but i will say that the word is that i should deffinately change my heads and thats my first quest, besides getting a 350 chip. if i need to do we know of someone willing to burn a chip for me..???

I think you are on your own for that one. I'm fairly new to that arena myself. Consider getting a PROMinator or something of that type. I just installed mine last week and I love it!!!!!! Will save a lot of time in the long run.

What you were asking for didn't require chip burning knowledge, just basic TPI knowledge that you could have obtained from the TPI board. Once you modify the engine from a stock configuration, then the chip burning will come in handy.

Read all the stickies you can on everything. That's what I'm doing right now. I'm just changing a few of the constants on the bin file like when the fans come on and go off, and inputting the correct injector size. Tables for timing will be next since I need to reduce the timing in some areas. After that, I need to lean out the car in some RPM bands.

Some, and I say "some" of the Guru's are MTPFI-MAF and Grumpy. There are several others others but I'm going brain dead at the moment. Let's see, plug the Prominator in the left ear, ALDL in the right ear Jumper cables to the tongue and nose......

PS: There are very few actual dummies. Most are just uneducated, and others are just horse's rearends. What most of the people on this particular board want is for you to do as much of the leg work as possible through "searches" before asking questions as their time is valuable. Do that and they will bend over backwards to help!!!!!

Captin C Thank You for your Kind Words but I My self was a very very Confused Noobie Just 9 months ago. I am more than happy to help out where I can and lend assitance if I know or know some one that might. I Have a LOOOOOOOOOOOOONNNNGGGGGGGG way to go before I am half way decent on Tuning, but I learn more and more Every Day.

At any event Thank you

BTW the ones I look for advice are GRUMPY, Traxion, RBob, Mangus, JPrevost, funstick, and a few others I cant Think of off the top of my head. I use the search button and pull posts by there name and Just Read Copy/Paste and Save for further reviewing. It helps

You would be surprised at what I have learned from your posts so far..... Just copied another one to my flash card today. I'll download it to the laptop when I get home.

I'm starting to speed up on the learning curve now that I have all the goodies to check bin files, check sensors, and can see the results of changes I am making to the bin file.

I eliminated the aforementioned knock problem albeit some refinement will probably be needed. I am leaving for a very long trip on tuesday so I needed to make some quick changes.

Next up, modify the fuel to get the INT's/BLM's closer to 128. Once that's done, then I can start fine tuning the timing.... Still reading up on the fuel adjustments....
