SES light and brake input to 730 necessary?

Well, I got my VSS working.

I'm curious as to it is necessary to hook up the brake pedal input and the SES light to get the 730 ECM to function properly. Of course, the reason I ask is because I haven't hooked them up.

I'm running a manual tranny so I'd been figuring the brake input wasn't necessary. I'm using Autoprom, so I was overly concerned with having an SES trouble light.

Also, any pointers on emulating with Autoprom? When attmempt emulating, I get intermittent operation, almost seems like it's missing and every once in a while it stumbles. I can burn a chip quite quick so I've been doing that for changes, but it kinda defeats the whole purpose of buying the emulating capability. By the way, my Autoprom works great for everything else (once I figured out the laptop settings to use).
