laptop for emulating

I did a search and couldnt find the awnser to my question, basiclly I dont have the vocabulary. I need to know what requirements a laptop computer has to have to run a emulator set up. I read some time ago that the newer computers dont have the right outputs or something like that. Any way if anyone could help me out, that would be great.

Depends on the emulator. Most require a serial port (Romulator, AutoProm Serial). Alternately, if you have a laptop (note the 'p') that has a USB port, you can run an AutoProm USB or Ostrich (see www.moates.net for more information on these emulators).

You should definately have at least a 200MHZ machine for anything tuning/logging related.

sure, for starters you want a PC that runs windows 98 at least. Dont waste your time with anything earlier. And unless you know your way around Virtual Computers stay away from older Mac's. You'll also want to make sure it has a parrallel port. A serial port is a nice to have -- though not essential as pc card or USB to serial adapters are cheap enough. A 200 Mhz processor should be enough -- 400 recommeded for some of the newer editing / tuning packages out there. 32 MB of RAM at a minimum. 64MB and up recommended. A bright display makes the laptop easy to see during the day.
Finally a good battery means you wont have to invest in a power inverter.
Good hunting.
