Am I capable?

I was wondering how much of a programming background do I need in order to program my own chips for my car? I have hardly any programming knowledge whatsoever. I've never programmed anything but my VCR. I have a TPI car and a TBI truck, and would really want to learn how to do this.

If you have a good conecpt of how a fuel injection internal combustion engine operates and is controlled, and what various sensors do then you will do just fine. If you don't, learn that first otherwise when you make a change you will have no clue how it's going to impact other things...

You don't need any programming experience to start burning chips. If you can use a computer you can program. The fact that you want to and are willing to learn how is 10x more important than anything else. Just realize it will take time to learn and will envolve a lot of reading. But, its worth it.

The time has been flashing on mine since the mid 90's.....

There's all sorts of software nowadays, all you need to know is the tuning end, the terms take some getting used to, but it's not that hard.

I get around an email a day from users who don't know how to use computers who are burning their own chips, so apparently computer knowledge isn't even required. :-D

(It certainly helps though - it makes my job easier, at least).
