ALDL high idle question, and yes I tried searching first.
My question is about the high idle achieved when you have the 10k resistor in place, and logging on a 165 ecm. This has come up in some recent discussion lately (not on this board). I have searched, and I just keep getting topics about the additional spark advance, and that its location of $23 can be zero'd for no additional spark advance when in ALDL mode. I thought I read somewhere that the ALDL idle speed can also be changed, but I cannot find anythng to back up my recollections. Does anyone have a link,or info that would help change this ALDL idle speed to a more normal level? BTW, yes I do understand that the 165 running 6E should communicate without the 10k, negating the need for a change- I just want to know if it can be done.

You should just remove the 10k once communication is complete. Then there's no need to edit your way around it.

That ALDL diagnostic mode commanded idle speed is hardcoded. It isn't a calibration value. However, it can still be changed or eliminated. To change the ALDL diagnostic idle speed location $13DA (EPROM address) has the desired RPM. This is the idle speed / 12.5, so the stock ARAP/APYP bins have $50 for a 1,000 RPM idle speed. Set it to whatever value is wanted.
To eliminate any ALDL diagnostic idle speed change location $13D7. It is currently $27, change it to $20. This will skip over the setting of the ALDL diagnostic idle speed and use the normal calibration table for idle.

i see the $27 value in the $13D4 location and have a value of $56 in the $13D7 location. where i see the $27 value do i change that to $20 or is something off here?
Thanks for the replies! I will check those locations on my bin tomorrow when I get home. Just removing the added timing made a huge idle improvement, but its still a tad higher than non-10k mode.
Mangus- I would LOVE to just remove the 10k, but unfortunatley, Im using WinALDL and I cant because its stops retrieving pertinent data. I tried Tunerpro's RT ALDL, but it wont link at all. I tried all three ALDL definitions for the 165 with no luck. I checked and unchecked the 160 baud box. Sometimes I get 1k error packets approx every second, sometimes I get 1 error packet every three or four seconds, but have a connection of .5 htz with it. Datamaster doesnt want to link at all. I tired all the different Com ports. This is all using a two transistor cable (that works with WinALDL) on my Compaq laptop running windows xp. The real problem, from what I just recently learned from your Tunerpro message boards, is that I am using a USB to serial adapter. Datamaster has a box to check for the use of one- but still no luck. I also tried all the datamaster options for vettes like disabling handshake and the dash thing- still no luck. This is in my 1985 Vette, converted to a 165 from the 6870. I wish I had the knowledge to figure this stuff out but I dont. Maybe someday someone will get all these variables to line up. I did read what you(?) wrote about Tunerpro 4.0, and that it may possibly work in circumstances like mine.

Nova -
Yes, TunerPro 4.0 should alleviate all ALDL issues. However, for now, since you're already running a '165, its not a huge leap to go to $6E (and therefore reap the benefits of 8192 baud, for which TunerPro works great). Perhaps you should consider doing this. (Its as easy as disabling your cold start injector in the car, removing VATS from your $6E bin of choice, and burning the bin to a chip!).
Hope this helps,
Mark

Mangus-
I am running 6E, with the APYP bin (modified). As I said above- I just cant get Tunerpro or datamaster to connect- but with the same cable on the same laptop- Winaldl is working fine. The way I understood the post on the tunerpro forum, is that the usb-serial adapter is the problem when trying to scan at the 8192 baud. I dont know anything about this- I am just believing that this must be the cause as everything else seems operational.
edit- after re-reading what you wrote, maybe I will try a 32 or 32b bin and see if Tunerpro will scan that at 160 baud. Currently, I cant get my 6e bin to scan with Tunerpro at any speed.

Tell it the address and bingo bango, a few more settings and save the ecu file for later.
