Installing Burn1
Installing Burn1
Alright, I've had the Burn1, GP1 Adapter and the downloaded TunerProfor about a week now. The only damn thing I have figured out is how to put one of these SST chips on the memory adapter and connect it to the memcal from my car.
I've read and tried everything I know to install my Burn1 properly. I don't think I have ever got it to work right...
I'm going to start from scratch with questions.
I go to this link, http://www.moates.net/gmecm/usbdrvr/MoatesUSBDriver.zip , and save it to my computer.
Now... How do I unzip it? I see where to extract it. Is that the same thing?
Edit: I found out that extracting the file is the same as unzipping it.

What version of windows are you using?
For me it wasn't a problem to install Burn1. When you plug in the USB port, you should have had a menu coming up asking to install the software. Have it search the CD that you recieved with the unit and it should automatically install the software.
From there you can check and see what port BURN1 is from the device manager. Use the FlashBurn program to read the data off of the PROM. If it is reading all 00's when you check the bin file, that means that you either have the wrong chip selected, or you have the PROM backwards.
Let me know if you still have problems.

Also, on some operating systems, it has to be on COM ports 1-4. If you have used some other USB devices, even if they are now unplugged, those ports may still show as used and windows will put it on some port above 4, and it wont be found when you try to open BURN1.
IIRC, I did a search on how to move COM ports and found a web page with a solution, had you somehow delete those ports and it worked fine after that.

Installing and operating the Moates.Net USB Devices:" seemed to check out fine...COM Ports and all.
I have Windows XP.
I opened up Flash & Burn from the unzipped file. Thing is...I have a broken prong from my Eprom after taking it off the MemCal...
I have also downloaded TunerPro.
Which one should I mess around with to get going, Flash & Burn, or the TunerPro? And what will I do about a chip for my car now?...seems like I'm really starting from scratch...since I no longer have a chip to start from.
Edit: I downloaded a bin from Moates website and programmed a chip, then erased it, etc. Flashburn is working fine, too. Though I don't really know how to use it yet.
If I have more questions I'll just start another topic.
Thanks

One thing I've found is that if Windows says that COM3/4 is being used, just ignore it and change the port setting to 3 or 4 anyways. Override the warning and it should work fine.
Also, if you need to salvage the content of that chip, feel free to send it to me and I'll get it off there ;^).

My problem was that on #5 of the following link http://www.moates.net/documentation....entation_id=15
my install differed. Confused me...since I have Windows XP and I thought it would be the same.
Also figured out that FLash&Burn is for erasing chips and taking a bin and loading it onto the chip...but that Flash&burn is not used for reprogramming the bin per say. That's what TunerPro is for. Now I'm reading all of the Help topics off of the TunerPro program to get familiar with the terminology. I'll be glad when I can look back on these newbie mistakes and laugh.
Thanks Craig. I'll probably do that just to know what was on there. It's the ANYF 9356. Don't seem to see it anywhere on the internet. I did download quite a few other bins though to use if necessary, such as the ARAP.
