AE - add fuel vs. timing?

How do you tell you should add fuel, take out fuel, OR
add timing, or take out timing in AE?

7730 $8D -

No wideband, no knock sensor - is it possible?

What does the engine "feel" like?

Thanks!

No knock sensor is going to be a big hindrance to your trial and error tuning. The knock sensor makes it really obvious datalogging when you' have pulled in too much timing. Why don't you have one? I have a TPI on a 1969 327, and the knock sensor directly replaced the already existing coolant drain plug on the lower pass. side of the engine block. I used a 350 knock sensor and knock module (the later ECU's won't need the external knock module). If you are running enough timing to maximize your performance, you will be on the cutting edge of having too much timing under some load/rpm combinations. When you have a knock sensor, this is a good thing.

i would say a knock sensor is one of the main guides to go by when tuning.

I guess it's time to get coolant on me....

I purchased a knock sensor, but I need to add the wiring, and install it. I haven't been able to locate a suitable place on the block for it yet though.

Thanks for the replies.

Too rich/ lean, can easily be mistaken for too much/ not enough timing. It can be done, but would take a longgggggg time.

And that's reason for making 2 (or 3) degrees less (negative) when you get a "little bit of knock" in an area - correct?
