Getting started tuning

I was given an old laptop, and decided i might as well use it to start tuning. The max232 chip is on the way for the cable and I am currently trying to track down the necesary files. The first step I want to accomplish is datalogging. I have a 91 firebird 305 TPI with a manual transmission. I downloaded tuner pro, and got the correct aldl file for datalogging. The two .ecm files I found from all the links on TGO seemed very different. There were several entries in the constants, flags, and tables which weren't the same. I'm not sure which one I should be using. The one that seemed to be the best was called Super_8dm2.ecu, if anyone can verify that it is the one i should be using, it would be helpful

There are also quite a few bin files available for the $8D mask, can someone recommend one to me that is closest to the stock setup I have in my car now? i will eventually import the one from my car, but i'd like to see if i can get a hang of datalogging before i invest in the chip hardware.

Also, if anyone knows where i could find a 1227727 $88 ecm file and aldl file for tunerpro that would be helpful, or a link to a site that would explain how to make my own. I've spent hours searching for all of these things and i'm not sure whether i've missed something or if thats just the way these files are spread out.

The two places I'd go looking for files are Craig Moates site, and ftp://ftp.diy-efi.org/ and poking around in the directories there.

The factory BIN file you need is AXYC for a manual tranny. Yours might be a different one (mine was), but researching it I found the AXYC superceded my original code. The problem with TunerPro is it's typically used for the AUJP and Super AUJP, which are both for auto tranny cars. I've never found a complete ECU file for TP that has the manual tranny stuff in it (like the shift light constants). So I go with TunerCat when I want to play with the strictly manual tranny stuff (there's not that much of it). TC has a "beta" version they can send you with the shift light constants accessible if you ask. Ask me how I know.....

Well I found the AXYC but no manual tranny ecu file. I have the anht hack which probably has all the information I need to create the manual tranny tables in the ecu file, but I don't know how many there are, or how to do it. So if i don't have it figured out by the time i get beyond datalogging, tunercat sounds like a nice investment.

My other car has a manual trans and will eventually have aujp running it.
If one of you e-mails me with the table info (What it does). I'll do a ecu for it and send it back. Might be a few weeks since I usually have 4-5 things going.

I'm not sure exactly what you mean by table info, or what information from the tables you want, but if you or someone else can specify the information required, i'd be more than happy to try and find it, although at this point, i'm not even sure where to look.
