Tuning '165 (ARAP) - The TCC lockup issue
Based on my experience with the stock ARAP TCC settings, they are way off, at least for my current car's setup. I was dealing with bucking/lugging right before the 2-3 shift under part throttle while the stock 88 bin I had as a backup did not do this.
I found a non-arap 89 bin for an Iroc 350/2.77 (from Mike Davis's site) and decided to load it up and drive around the block. What a difference that made! The lockup settings on that bin were 95% on target. From what I can tell, the "TCC Unlock Speed vs. %TPS(Not in 4th/In 4th)" and the "TCC Lock Speed vs. %TPS(Not in 4th/In 4th)" tables were the main problem in the ARAP bin. Now as far as fine tuning my lockup settings, I believe all I will have to change is the "Low Speed limit for low gear lock to unlock transition" and the "Low Speed limit for low gear unlock to lock transition" Constants as they seem to have the mph set a little low to my liking (Unlock = 30mph / Lock= 32mph). I say this because driving around 30-35mph in my neighborhood cause the TCC to lock and unlock constantly.
Saturday I tried to transfer all the TCC info from my 88 bin to the ARAP bin in hopes of a fast lockup fix. That fixed the lugging/bucking problem but my TCC would never lockup at all. Needless to say, that was a failure. So that appears to be another difference between the $32B and the $6E code (when trying to use the 6Ev011.ecu for both) . All you guys who insist on running the ARAP code on your car, I would recommend finding a non-arap 89 bin with the gears you are running (or close to running) and testing it out on you car to make sure you are happy with the lockup settings. If the non-arap bin lockup settings are close or dead on to what you want, transfer all of the TCC table and constant info over to the ARAP bin and go from there.
Corrections and comments always appreciated.
