Would a simple UV LED erase eproms in a reasonable amount of time?

 

I don't think so, I tried putting my chips in my mother in laws tanning bed with no luck. She wasn't too happy when she laid down on some I think the chip eraser's use a bulb thats tuned to a specific wavelength or somthin like that.

I'm sure you know, but it's so much easier dealing with electronically erasable chips. You can either buy Moates' adapter, or you can make it yourself. There are some schematics floating around somewhere, you just have to connect some pins.

 

IIRC, you need to get pretty high up into the UV band to erase the chips since it takes a certain energy level to do this. And, do they even have UV LED's? I thought blue was as high as they got?

You can also erase them with daylight, but itll take like a couple of weeks.

 

They do have UV LEDs, but the intensity is waaaaay too low for this, and they're a little pricey. A chip eraser is probably cheaper, and EEPROMs make more sense.

 

So, you can get a 2732 eeprom? I search one time and couldn't find one. I'll look again I suppose

 

I find them in bulk on Ebay from time to time. Their pulls from who knows what kind of electronics. Usually about half work, and then half of those crap out on the first couple of burns and then your left with about 10 good ones out of your 50 you paid 10 bucks for. I got lucky last time and got over 150 of brand new chips. Of course this is about the time I got some eeproms and quit using the 2732's.
