Tuning and Converters
While I've been party to tuning some cars with fairly high stall converters, I've just recently gone to a *low* stall, 10" converter for my car.
[254mm, 2,800 stall, Yank Converter *Super Stock*]
With the higher stall converter (typically 3,500) it's always been rather easy to get the AE/PE correct, since the engine is never really *loaded down*, coming off idle, like with a stock converter. So with less load, less fuel, and timing are needed. The engine also transistions thur that range so quickly, that again, there's little load. Not to mention that there is also a big difference in what the converter will flash to, while the converter is *flashing*, that allows the motor to rev with a realitively light load..
What I hadn't expected was how dramatic of change I'd see going from a restalled stocker (ie it's about 2,600), to such a similiar stall, smaller diameter converter would be. BTW, I'd sriven a Yank converter'd car similiar to mine, but it had a 11" prototype of what was to become the Super Stock 254.
Anyway, I've been able to take some off idle fuel out. Lessen the low RPM AE, and ramp out less timing coming off idle.
