Do you have a chip in mind? What is it, the 4 letter code?

Al.

I found this one to be the latest for a 5.0L with auto trans. Indicates its for the 700R4.
There might be a better choice, this is just what I found quickly.
Look here to find the best match to your setup.
http://www.efitune.com/broadcast_codes/

Then do a check on "gmpartsdirect.com" to find the cost. This one shows $47.50.

Also, see the "get bin" in the corner.
Click on that to download the file. It is the file that is on the memcal chip you are buying. Having that you will be able to modify and tune the settings with chip burning equipment.

Thanks. I'm still not sure if I'll have the money to burn a chip just yet, I may need to pay someone since I need to modify VSS (from what I read) and disable VATS.

So I buy that memcal, it plugs into the ECM, then I remove the prom on it and burn a new one? Sounds easy enough, thanks alot guys!

Not the best route, you could damage the memcal easily.
Code:
1.) Buy the Memcal
2.) Buy Moates "G1" adapter (or GP1)
3.) Install G1 into ECM
4.) Install Memcal onto the G1
5.) Burn a chip (using external equipment)
    5a.) dowload the "bin" file
5b.) download Tunerpro (free) or TunerCat (buy)
5c.) download the TDF, ECU or XDF definition file.
5d.) Make your changes to the bin file
    5e.) Burn your chip
6.) Install the burned chip onto the G1 adapter.
The G1 bypasses the chip on the Memcal and puts your burned chip in its place while keeping all the other circuitry intact.

If you are not going to burn a chip, you would just install the Memcal into the ECM.
It will have VATS enabled (if it had it from the factory) and the VSS will throw an error code and put you into reduced performance if not in "limp home" mode.

Hope that clarifies the process.

I have a question similar to this,

On my memcal it says AXXF.
Then on the "computer" it says AXYC.

Which bin do I download to the flash chip?

AXYC is a 5.0 MT bin.
You want AXXF which is an AT bin.
