Fuel only TBI?

I am about to help a friend convert the 302w in his '32 coupe to GM TBI. Initially I will just set it up 'fuel only and leave the points dissy in there. I imagine the 7747 or 8746 will need to see drp's before it will fire the injectors?? How do i manage this with a points dissy?? I know there must be a way!
Thanks.

If you can fire an LED, you can trigger a GM ignition module

A 1K resistor in line with an LED, and some sort of zener diode, and your done. The just feed the module from across the LED.

What no late model Truck PCM? <sigh>

Thanks Grumpy, I think I can visualize what you are saying..
So you still use the module from the dissy, but where the pickup coil would connect, you use your LED based circuit to trigger it?
I might use a later TBI PCM yet, undecided at this stage..

I think it would be much easier to just drop a duraspark dist in it and lock out the advance. ($5 at the JY)
A small spot weld in the top of the shaft is all it needs.
I use the DS magnetic pick up in my IH distributors to fire the GM 7747.
I remote mount the EST to a small plate next to the dizzy for grounding and heat transfer.

On mine i hook the purple wire to the P term and the org to the N term.

Here is a diagram that was drawn up by a guy on the Ih site.
And a pick of the converted dizzy.

Just my $.02

it's nice to have a back up fuel only tho.

Thanks Bill.
I too would much rather use an electronic dissy with mag. pickup coil. I will try a bit harder to talk him into it.. They are not so plentiful here ;-)

But you do have those infamous 2 barrel cleveland heads to bolt on that 302!!!

I was always partial to the 351 w/ the 400 crank and the cleveland heads!!

I would like to see a drawing of the fuel only circuit.
I think a little break out box to jumper in would be good for trouble shooting.!

Yeah, Cleveland stuff is much more plentiful here than Windsor stuff...

Yes, attach it's leads across P + N.

Disabling the ignition side, thou, is kinda like running without moving your arms. Sure, you can do it, but why?.

I see you are in australia... I've heard that V8 commodore's used a hall effect pickup and ICM that is compatable with the GM tbi/tpi ecm's. They don't seem to be available here in the states, but since you are in Holdenland you might be able to try this out...

The ford efi distributor has a hall effect sensor that you could wire up with this setup.

Are 5.0 mustangs and thunderbirds rare over there? I converted my 2 barrel truck to SEFI for around 200 bucks with take off parts from mustang guys going to aftermarket setups.

Yeah the commodore stuff is VERY similar to the US GM Delco stuff. The number of late EFI mustangs i have seen here could be counted on one hand, and the newest t'bird i have ever seen is about a '64 ;-)

I have bought a Camaro TBI setup (harness, sensors, tb, ecm, dissy etc etc).. I haven't had a real good look at the harness yet, but there is only one connector i don't recognise:

I am guessing that in the Camaro it passes thru the firewall and connects non-ecm circuits to the engine compartment??? I'll test them all for continuity soon and see where where they go...
