16168625 data logging info please (solved with interesting note)
I hate to dumb it down here, but I've got a daily driver problem.
'93 s-15 jimmy, CPI 16168625 BBNT
I want to try and datalog it. Can someone please help me understand this newer ecm?
It's got a bad habit now of stalling out. Started off with just a bad idle, now it to the point of running for a few minutes and then dieing. It will refire after several minutes.
After exhaustive testing, I'm thinking either the injector is sticking, or the ecm is pooping out (someone already put a reman ECM in it)
I''ve found the pin outs (I think) so I'll try and put an o-scope on the injector soon.
BTW, all my research so far has been for a 7747 tbi conversion on my old jeepster. The newer stuff is baffling me right now, sorry.

You can download the correct version of datamaster from here:
http://www.ttspowersystems.com/softw...e6/e6-full.zip it is about 7meg...
then you can buy a cable from somewhere like www.mastach.com for a 9 pin serial type, or www.moates.net for a usb type..

with all of my searching, I never did find that site
and free trial to boot [WHOOT] I gota run over to Moates and pick up a cable!
I stoped by my favorite pick-a-part, no luck on the 8626, but I did grab a 16197427 and a 16196395, $15 a piece, can't go wrong.
I'm still researching, but 89350stro said he pined 'em out and their all identical. I'll try and find schematics also to verify.
Thanks again for your time

Ben,
Thanks for all your help, I've got one more question.
What does the ecm need (input wise) to trigger the injector during cranking?
I think +12v crank, and a tach signal.
I played with the oscope last night, it's 2 channel, so I found a dist ref hi, and the injector. when it doesn't start, I don't have either signal. wierd part....it still fires the plugs.
Stoping by the parts house today to get an ignition module.

Should be pretty simple to create an ALDL definition for TunerPro to datalog it as well. TunerPro is free (no free trial about it).

I figured tunercat would "work" magnus, but I haven't even started tuning, let alone programming, kina beyond me right now.
Oh, problem solved, intermittent TACH signal output from the dist ignition module.
Red = injector, Blue = ref hi dist signal. when it dies, the "tach" signal went VERY noisy, or flatline!
Quick FYI
This POS will run very well on the 16196395 ecm, so it must be very compatible? after I figure out all this dataloging stuff, I'll report back with the differences I find between the 16196395, 16197427 and the 16168625.
Thanks again for your help guys!

Mangus,
My humblest appologies sir.
I did some searching just now on how to create definitions, only to find out your the author (remove shoe, insert foot) sorry.
Is there a link describing the basic steps required for creating the definition file?
Thank you
Thom

Never a need to apologize. I was just informing you that TunerCat doesn't do ALDL stuff.
Unfortunately, no, there isn't a beginner's link to creating an ADS. I'll have to write that up.
Basically, you need to find the .DS file in this zip:
ftp://diy-efi.org/pub/gmecm/ALDLstuff.zip
The DS file contains all the byte offsets and, in most cases, the math required to change the raw output to usable values. If you open up one of the ADS files included with TunerPro, you should be able to make out what's going on. Just enter the information that you gather from the DS for your ECM.
I know, it's broad. I'll write a white paper one of these days.

There is already a definition at moates.net, here:
http://www.moates.net/files/4)%20Datastream%20Definitions/16168625_94-95_C_K_G_Body_TBI.ads
I have not been able to get it working, and there is a comment there that its untested.. Most of the work is done tho, it might just need some tweaking..

Hey did you ever datalog while it had the tach problem?
My 8625 won't display spark advance or RPM's when logging with datamaster, no obvious reasons why

I used an osilliscope to watch teh injector and the high ref tach signal. I saw a BUNCH of noise on the tach when it wouldn't run, so I swaped out the dist module. problem solved, but it doesn't help you much, sorry
