TunerPro Questions

I just bought an ALDL cable and am trying to use TunerPr (v4) to view data (data logging) on a 91 Camaro V6.

However, when I try to hook everything up, I can't get past the "no hardware found" state in TunerPro.

I've got the cable in the COM port, hooked to car, igition switch to "run", and tryed refreshing the "detect hardware" several times.

I think the issue is in my cable...

my car has the following pins in it's port: (X shows a pin, - denotes empty slot)

X - - X X X
- - - X - X

While your cable, viewed from the back, has the following:

- - - - - X
- X - - - -

So obviously, the cable is hitting an empty pin slot...

For the 91, how should I reconfigure?

And, does this model need the resistor between Pins A & B? if so, shouldn't there b 3 pins in the cable, not just 2??

I tried removing the Pin in the cable in the lower row and moving it to the right-hand slot (the "M" slot), but I get the same error...

I need some advice on the proper cable/pin-out configuration I think...

did you try doing a search on this. i seen it posted many times before, i belive that the m slot is the infomation so that needs to be hooked up. a/b i think put the ecm into a program mode so you can get the data. i am not sure though. try the search and see

Your cable picture is mirrored (drawing only, probly not the cable)
The data is on "E" or "M".
Those are the two pins you show in the diagram of the cable (but are upside down and reversed.
The cable "should" have them connected together.
F E D C B A
G H J K L M
looking at the ALDL connector.

I'm thinking this is a 1227730 ECM and should not need to jump the A & B to get data out.

The "No hardware found" is there for when using an Ostrich, Autoprom or similar device that communicates with the software.
When using a cable, I don't think it matters.
Check the option/settings in TP and be sure its set to "MAX232" when using the cable with std comm port.

The other thing is that there is no gound wire on the cable if there are only the two wires. That could be the whole problem.
Check the pinout of the cable against some diagrams on the net and see if you have all connections needed.
(Mine has power, ground and data wires, just for reference)
I would think you need at least "A" and "M" to connect. Power may come from the laptop serial port but not all computers can support that from what I've heard.
Hope that helps.

After looking at you pic, "Viewed from the back" would be correct

TunerPro does not detect ALDL cables in the startup routine. You must manually configure it to use your cable. See the preferences in the program.

Got it working...

I got it working...not sure which was the problem.
Switched to a different laptop as I wasn't sure if I might have had a conflict on COM1 on the first one...

On my 2nd laptop, I had the previous v3.10 and was too lazy to go download v4 before testing.

I was able to connect to the ECU from the data logging setup screen.

Then, I found that it took maybe a long as 60 seconds after connecting to start to see data flow.

I'll go back now and play around more with config and go back to v4...

But it's working now...I got the data I needed for my immediate issue (speed sensor test), but I definately want to play more with all this slick data! Nice software!
