hey guys..im lost..i swaped my motor from my 89 gta into my 88 trans am..i swapped the engine harness and ecm also..i plugged it all in and car wouldnt start.i then swapped the chip from my 88 305tpi into the 89 ecm and the car fired right up..i figured something was wrong with the chip in the 89(it was a hypertech streetrunner)so i ordered a new one..swapped it in and again the car wont fire with the hypertech..car runs fine with the chip from the 88..and ran perfect when it was in the 89.is this a vats issue and how do i fix it..thanks for any help..

Do yourself a favor and send all the hypertech stuff back and spend the money on getting your own tuning equipment.

First time u compare a stock bin to hypertec, u will see the true waste of time and money they are :-) Great stikcies up top to start u on your way also :-)

Well hard to qalify as a VATS issue or not. I know the 89 will have VATS, does the 88?(i think it should, or was it optional?)

If the 89 has vats and the 88 doesnt, you will have to eliminate it in the chip itself to make it work.

The 89 code is the preferred for MAF cars, as it does away with the cold start injection and is the most refined MAF code.

Try using some CAPS and spaces in there :-) Might make people a little more likley to help you out.

My 88 does not have VATS and my 89 did.

Ill guess that this is my problem?

Can i eliminate this on the Hypertech chip or do I need to buy a new chip and have it custom burn't? I dont mind sending the Hypertech back.It was A bit pricy at 168 bucks! And now I have 2 of them....

Theres your issue.

Start reading the stickies at the top of the board.

For getting your $169 back, you can be burning your own stuff.

One change in the bin would net you a running car with the 89 code like it shoud have :-)

Plus learnign with a stock engine is infintesimily easier than leanring after mods have taken place :-)
