EGT temps

I've finally came to the conclusion that what i've been using for tools just isn't reliable enough.

This week I bought an EGT. I've been busy with putting the vortech setup in the Cobra, but finally tonight I got a chance to put the EGT in the bird.

Idle is 750-800* f.

Cruise is 1,000*f..

Seems a little hot to me..

Hopefully I'll have a wideband o2 setup this week to compliment my ostrich I ordered from Craig that should show up tomorrow.

That's not hot. What's hot is 1600+, THAT's hot... and even that is still okay so long as the oil and water temps aren't too bad. Those temps aren't usually seen on n/a engines but if you've got a high specific output it's possible.
Typically 1350 is the sane man's limit.

Seems hot to me. I think i have more fuel heating up the exhaust, than pusing down the piston. Officially, I'm going open loop forever. I'm hunting for a wb-02 this week, and hopefully will obtain one by friday.. With that and the ostrich I should be able to tune idle/cruise, and wot fairly quickly. No more of this BLM crap.. My old motor seemed to like closed loop. This new setup just won't work. Maybe the cam is too big, I dunno. But the narrowband O2 doesn't know WHAT is going on, heated delco or not.

Well I've always found that engines will run perfectly fine in closed loop... when the PID routines are tweaked. Left stock they don't do very well with hotter setups.
Change the PID and you can effectively run a richer or leaner than stoich engine while STILL in closed loop. It's obviously a moving average where the engine spends most of its time richer than stoich (or leaner) and then swings past the .450mv for just an instant.
As for the fuel comment, yeah, often gas motors spend more of their energy heating up the exhaust, oil, and coolant than converting it into mechanical energy . It's why I choose turbo diesels for fuel efficiency (yah to the VW TDI).
