aldl160 Project

This isnt directly linked but has anyone on the board attempted this LCD aldl display project off the diy-efi.org?

http://www.diy-efi.org/gmecm/projects/aldl160/

What I wanted to know is did which kind of display did you use? I would like to go with the 4x20 VFD (vacuum flourscent) display but the place I order my electrical components from want $412 for the display alone. Is this on par or maybe they just dont deal in them enough to to get the good price. Typically they arent too bad price wise.

This is kind of a side/learning project I want to do while I finish writing the software for the touch lcd screen. That project is also on hold till I can find a smaller touch LCD. I have a 15" but that is a little much for being mounted on the dash.

Thanks,
Twist

I thought about that. Not with Palm though. I have a Compaq iPAQ that I thought about using. I have never done any programming under CE before and I wouldnt know where to begin to tackle writing a diacom type program for a handheld. I doubt it could be that different. Just never looked. I am just now getting my feet wet with prom burning and trying to understand the aldl. Burner will be here tomorrow hopefully. Damn UPS!

The software I am doing is just an program that interfaces with some serial controllers. The touch LCD would just be like and external display for a laptop mounted in the backseat running aldl software, and the software I am working on. But it gives me a few added features like dvd playback, prom burning abilities, wireless internet and gps. I guess I am just a computer nerd with too much time on his hands. I think thats why I really want to get into the prom stuff. Been reading through several articles. Learning a little more each time. It all looks like greek now but I am more of a hands on person.

You evil, evil man....arghhh....

All kidding aside, I take my hat off to you Craig. You have managed to develop and produce a great line of products for us in the EFI community.

I have had my prom burning and ALDL setup for some years now, but if I was getting into the game today, I'd simply buy your stuff and get on with it.

Great contribution to the community and I can't wait to see this next project, I'll surely be a buyer.
