I've got a '730 on a bench harness that I'm using to get some ALDL software working....

With a V6 memcal in place the SES light goes on as soon as the ECM gets power, but will not flash codes when the A and B aldl pins are jumped.

if I install the moates chip adapter the light goes off if a eprom is installed in the zif socket. If it is removed the light goes back on.

no aldl action seems to be happening either.

Any ideas on why the light is staying on but not allowing diagnostics?

Should the SES light flash rapidly like the '747's do with a bad eprom?

In my car, the SES light comes on when you turn the key to on, but not start. It turns off as soon as you start the car.

On a bench, I've verified flashing the SES light and ALDL operation with just a few wires connected, power/ground, basically.

Sorry I can't answer about the flashing, never tried a 'bad' prom.

Any chance you want to pull your chip and see if it flashes fast for me?

I think I'll start tracing pins. I've noticed a few are different between the 2.8 and the v8.

Oh! When I turn the key and there is no chip in the socket, it doesn't flash. It turns the SES light on and the fans, etc.

I thought you meant burning a PROM with a bad checksum.

I meant either one actually.

sounds like its functioning as if there were no memcal in place.

thanks for the help.
