Help with Modified 76 Toyota Land Cruiser

Hello everyone..

This is my first post because I am new to the Programming side of the TBI.

My tbi is an aftermarket kit that includes the xxx747 computer, and GM TBI. The seller [Downey Toyota] suggests the eprom from an 89 Astrovan will give a good place to start but from my experience with Jim at Downey these guys are only selling the hardware and good luck with the true core of the system-the chip. As you have guessed my Landy does not run well. So I have dived into this forum with the goal of improving the system. My first step was to buy the Pocket Programmer, and reading here I feel I may have made a mistake,,,not buying the Moate USB flash and burn unit...any comments?

My next step is to buy some erased proms to have on hand and to build/buy an ALDL cable so I can see what the current chip is doing right/wrong. I also forgot to mention that I found another Landcruiser person on the web who sent his .bin file to me to try out...that might fill the bill but after spending quite abit of time reading your posts here and else were I have become very interested in this re programing way of tuning ..I also have a 91 Suburban.

so thats where I am at..any suggestions or advise would be much appreciated!

Barney

I don't think you made a mistake re the Pocket Programmer, mine has worked well for me.

First, make sure you get the flash chips. Don't bother with the ones that need to be UV erased.

Second, I'd make sure all of your sensors are hooked up and functioning properly. You need all of them (VSS).

Good luck, you have a lot of reading to do!
