How much to get started burning?

Like the title asks, how much $$ is spent on hardware and programs before I actually have my first burnt chip? Is there a stickie with everything I need?

Is it fairly reliable or is it like burning CD's, some just don't make it?

Also, chips are expensive, are there any that can be re-written or re-burnt?

Funny thing is, all I need is 1 chip (modified stock) and 1 later in the future with heads and cam and all that stuff.

Answers to all your questions can be found in the above stickies. Read Traxions intro to prom burning to start you out right, and yes the chips are very reliable.

It also depends on whether you stick with EPROM, convert to EEPROM, get just a burner, upgrade to an emulator, want a ZIF, burner/logger as USB or Serial, etc...

How much depends on what you want to do. If all you want to do is read, change and burn flash chips, read the information on the following link:
http://www.edgesz28.com/edgesZ28/sub...ng.htm#diyprom

However, if you want to do emulation (real-time changes), that is different and you will need to do a little more homework.

Good luck, Ed

www.moates.net has stuff
www.xtronics.com has stuff
www.tunercat.com has stuff

but remember being able to burn is of little use
if you do not have some kind of data logging
software to know what you need to do.

how would you like a doctor to operate on you
with a blind fold on? same concept of burning
without datalogging .

To get the cheap chips, you have to convert to the more modern/common EEPROMs like Moats sells. These require a simple mod to your ECM. Details on Moat's site, I just did it last Saturday...
