lt1 prom burning

Hello,
I currently have a 5.0 tpi motor in a 91 T/A. I've been tring to figure out if a 5.7 tpi or a lt1 swap would be the "way to go".

My question is "If I install a lt1 will I still have to burn new proms with motor modifications"?

I think that with the lt1 computer package its all reprogramable, is that correct?

Thanks

Depends on what LT1 you get.

IIRC, 1992-93 LT1s will require the same PROM burning procedure that we use on Thirdgens.

1994-1997 LT1's are flash memory and are different procedure.

The short answer is that all LT1's are reprogrammable. Just a matter of how.

Newer is always better.
The newest ones use flash based programming, instead of chips. The flash chips are like $450 for the equipment to do them. And you always want to carry a spare pcm. The early LT1s (92/93)use a prom, and are the same technology as the 3rd gens for reprogramming.

IMO, even a stock engine benefits from having a *custom* tune done. The oem tunes are enough to keep the average Joe happy, and ignore any real fine tuning.
