Iac & $58
i think before i switch back to $8D i'll try a different $58 bin, question is on the IAC on this board there are 50 million ways to wire it, it's my understanding that on a 1992 SD TPI 7730 that there is no need to re wire the IAC, i took the iac out and with the 7730/$58 and key on it extends all the way, key off and it retracts around half way, does that sound right? i'd like to get the $58 running instead of $8D

Key on, A->B shorted, should cause the IAC to run, and extend itself.
If you unplug the IAC with the key still on, then key off, and then remove it, it should be fully extended.

thanks grumpy thats how mine is working, but i cant get the $58 code to idle at the set idle speed, and tunerpro is saying 76 counts at idle, i tried the minimum air adjustment and fired it up and it ran about 1200-1300 rpms...

there's also MPH reset as I recall, unless you hit 25 (?) MPH it may act up. Once it does the VSS reset, it should be OK.
Just going from memory since it's been a while since I ran it.

Another interesting thing about the $58 code is that if you use the normal 10k resistor on the ALDL plug it will force itself to a 1200 RPM idle. That would mess you up also.
It sounds like you have the 10K resistor installed. You can still 8192 datalog without it.
Yes, your IAC is operating correctly. Did you leave the IAC wiring as stock 730 ECM wiring?

yes stock wiring for the 7730 SD, no resistor installed using a moates serial to usb, and an ostrich, it has the switch to either short a and b or the 10k, thats why i dont understand why the idle is messed up.

I NEVER start an new ECM and/or engine using an emulator. My early designed emulators would screw up an ECM parameter sometimes when the ECM reads from the PROM. Yeah, I eventually figured out how to fix it, but I learned to keep things simple on initial start up with a new ECM/engine.
This may not have anything to do with the odd idle thing, but you can rule one thing out while learning the new ECM.
I am not knocking your emulation equip, it just adds another level of complexity. Good to hear you kept the stock IAC wiring.
