Educate me on cold start please
Educate me on cold start please
I have finally got my Prominator installed and was playing with it a bit last night. I *think* I may have a grip on the VE tables, how they work and how they relate to the BLM's in the data log. BUT I am having a problem with my cold start. I have a '88 K5 Blazer (350 700R4 (7747 with a slightly modded AJAK.bin)) that I have added a Holley 670 TBI to. I have managed to lean the fuel out enough so that the BLM's are hanging around 128(ish), but during the inital cold start and until the choke delay finished I'm getting a way rich condition. So rich that the exhaust is blowing lots of black smoke.
I did quite a bit of reading last night and since the search feature is disabled, I can't find exactly what I need. I know that there are a few O/L loop settings that need adjusted, but I don't know how they relate to the A/F ratio and which way to adjust them.
I have played with the Max and Min A/F during O/L, the O/L AF vs Temp and O/L AF vs Kpa (I think this is the one, I don't have my notes with me here at work), but nothing has made a noticable difference.
Could somebody point in the right direction as how these relate to the cold start cycle please? TIA

Raise the O/L AFR vs Cool but only for the temp. that you are at say -7c which is 19f and goes up to 44f (7c the next block in the table). Try to leave the choke settings alone if they get to short and time out too quick the engine will stall.
In so saying if you change 2-3 temp. settings and if you have a short choke setting (like 0.850). The engine stalls after the choke times out, when trying to restart (the temp. is now higher) and if the higher settings are to lean you get a no-start or a start and stall problem.
The point of my rambling: change only one thing at a time so you don't end up like this.

Ok, let me see if I got this straight. I RAISE the AFR vs Temp to lean out the AFR? Ie. from 12.00 to 13.00, I am leaning out the AFR? In the AJAK bin I am playing with the count only goes up to 13. Can I raise it higher?
I am using Tuner Pro am only at the chart and graph stage of the learning curve, so I must admit to ignorance on those numbers you gave me.

That is correct. 13 AFR is leaner than 12 AFR
