Winaldl problems

I'm having one hell of a time with winaldl. I tried to get it to work a while back but couldn't then I messed up my cable. Now I have made a new cable and can not get the computer to respond. I an running a straight 12 volt source to the cable to be sure that is not the problem. I used slots A and E first and got no responce then tried using the 10k resistor into slot B as well. I got no data showing up. I'm using setting 1228746 for my:

1991 Camaro RS
305 TBI L03

I am openning winaldl and using the datalogger menu to hit start. Is that when the program will start showing data? I could not get any readouts to display anywhere and do not know if i am using this right. I asked for tips in the TBI section but got no responce so if someone can help me as soon as possible with possible errors, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

Haven't tried it on the 91 RS yet but I've been using it some on the 86 IROC. Today I had problems getting it to start "seeing" data. First I checked the COM port to insure it was set on 4 and not 1, 2 or 3 (had that problem before). It still wouldn't work, made sure I'd picked the right ecm for my car and it was but winadl wasn't seeing anything. Then I picked through the baud rate options till I got the right one. It started working. I hadn't even realized I'd changed the baud rate but that I'm still getting used to that pesky finger trip mouse panel on the laptop and I make about as many mistakes as I do what I intended. That should take care of the winadl end of it but you may still have cable issues.

Make sure that winaldl is set for the 746 ecm and for 240 buad rate. Hope you get it working.

I had those settings. It may be my cord. But can someone give me a few quick steps. Do i just throw in the cord, and open the program, start the car and expect numbers to show up? A few steps would be very appreciated.

i had best luck starting car. then connecting to ALDL. i leave the ALDL cable connected and installed a small toggle switch. i bring up winaldl; start car; flip switch. some serial-usb adapters are a pain i here. i use radio shack no problems. all com ports must match as you are aware.
