28 pin install use 2732A?

Im just getting everything togather to start burning chips. I have an LO3 TBI ecm 1228746 so my stock chip would be the 2732A and when i do the burning I will be switching to the 29c256 eeprom. Now i know i have to put the adapter in and everything but my question is if i do all this and i go to burn a chip and it doesnt come out right will my old 2732A chip be able to go in the 28 pin adapter, i know its a 24 pin chip but will it still work with it. I am still going to burn the chips and hopefully get them right but this is my only car so i dont want to not have it until i get the right chip setup. Even with a bad burn will the car still run??

I assume the adapter you speak of would be something like the one Moates.net supplies?

If you solder the adapter directly to the ecm board you will not be able to reuse the 2732a. If you solder a 24 pin dip socket to your board and plug the adapter into that, you will be able to return to the OE chip. Simply remove the adapter and use the ole 2732a in the dip socket.

I looked into this a couple of days ago and never posted back (bad memory?). If you are using the G2 to adapt to a 28 pin PROM, I'll say that the original 24 pin PROM will plug in and work. It will need to be located at the bottom end of the socket (toward the outside of the ECM).

I've never tried it but there is nothing to lose in doing so. The way the EPROMs progressed over the years, the manufacturers did a wonderful job in maintaining pin compatability.

Just for kicks, I tossed a 2732a in my G2. Low and behold it seemed to work. I didn't get any codes and the car started and ran ok. Granted I didn't run it long, but it did run.
