EBL fan setup

The controller that came with my electric fans caught fire today so I need to hook everything up to run through the EBL. What all connections do I need to make to get it setup that way?

There are a couple of different ways to connect the fans. If you already have a relay in place you can vary this to suit the current wiring scheme.

First thing is to connect the relay coil: pins D & F. One pin goes to +12 volts (ignition preferred) and the other pin goes to the EBL ECM pin C2. On the relay the pins D & F are interchangeable.

That connection will activate the relay (close the NO contacts) whenever the CTS goes above the set point.

The relay NO contacts are E & A. These can be used to provide B+ to the fan, or to ground the fan.

If used to provide B+ to the fan, wire the relay A pin to B+ (battery w/a fusable link is preferred). Run relay pin E to the fan. Ground the other fan lead.

If used to ground the fan. Run relay pin A to ground, and pin E to the fan (A & E can be switched, doesn't matter). Then run the other fan lead to B+ (battery w/a fusable link preferred).

Aftermarket.

What is B+??

What kind of relay do I need? I don't have one for the fans.

The B+ is battery power, positive terminal. For relays I have been using the GM stuff. Pulled from 'automotive recycling yards,' so I'm not sure of new parts prices.

On the 3rd gens the same model relay is used for the fuel pump, A/C, and fans. They have a sealed weatherpack connector and provide decent reliability.

That's what I have been doing. Going to the junk yard and getting factory GM relays and the corresponding plugs.

This is the only relay I see for fan setup on a camaro and I'm not sure how that would wire up from your description.

If pins D & E are truely connected internally, that would change things a bit. I'm not sure that they really are. If so, I've been real lucky getting the pins hooked up without making smoke

It is the correct form along with the correct hanger bracket. That is the relay I was referring to. Just not sure about D & E being connected together.

Ignore that they are connected together and review the write up again. In that manner it all works out. Later today I am going to ring out some of the relays I have to see if they are connected.

{edit: checked 2 relays, # 14103304, there is no connection between D & E. These relays are the typical GM units used on a multitude of vehicles. The # 14103304 is printed on the top of the housing. }

Works like a champ, even have an override switch in the engine bay for when I'm cooling down at the drags
